Three Years of Axxa: From Lockdown Idea to Surf-Street Golfwear Movement

Three years ago, a 14-year-old kid  had an idea during lockdown:
"what if golf could feel like surf culture -  creative, expressive, and fun?"

That idea became Axxa Golf.
Today, at 17, founder Axel Karlsson-Lacy is celebrating three years of building one of Australia’s most exciting youth-driven golf brands, one that’s rewriting what golf looks like from the beach to the fairway.

Where It All Started

When golf was one of the first things to reopen during COVID, Axel found himself spending hours at the local range. He noticed something: the typical golf clothes don't represent the cool youth that are loving the sport.

“Golf isn’t boring, and neither are the people who play it.” - Axel Karlsson-Lacy

So he got to work.
From his bedroom, armed with curiosity (and YouTube tutorials), he designed his first polos and launched Axxa Golf online in 2022.
What began as four golf polos has now evolved to a unique clothing brand thats become a staple in many peoples wardrobes.

The Spirit of Axxa

Axxa has always stood for more than clothes. It’s about freedom, creativity, and community. The feeling of finishing a round and heading straight to the surf.

Each collection fuses surf-street aesthetics with the great game of golf.
It’s designed for comfortability, self-expression, and that Aussie coastal energy Axel grew up around.

It’s playful, inclusive, and built for anyone who loves the game, even if they don’t play by the old rules.

The Journey So Far

In just three years, Axxa has grown from a teenage side project to a self-funded, self-managed brand with a loyal following.
Every weekend at the Manly stall, Axel meets customers face-to-face; locals, tourists, and young golfers discovering Axxa for the first time. That real-world connection fuels the brand’s online momentum.

Behind the stall and socials is a kid balancing school, cricket training, and product drops. Proof that next-gen entrepreneurship doesn’t wait for permission.

What’s Next

Year four is about expansion: more drops, more creativity, and more community.
Axxa plans to broaden its online range, collaborate with young creators across Australia, and eventually step into select retail and wholesale spaces while staying true to its roots.

“It’s crazy to think this all started from lockdown boredom. Now I get to create something that connects surf, sport, and community. That’s what keeps me inspired.” - Axel Karlsson-Lacy
